Funding Digital Product Passport Projects in Italy: Grants and Incentives for Companies

This article reflects the opportunities and information available in October 2026. Calls, funding availability and eligibility requirements may change. Companies should always consult the complete official documentation before applying.

Digital Product Passport projects require investment in product data, traceability, software integration, supplier engagement and internal processes. Although Italian incentive schemes do not generally identify the DPP as a standalone category, some of these activities may fall within programmes supporting digitalisation, supply-chain innovation, training or international competitiveness.

Eligibility depends on how the project is structured, the expenses incurred and the specific requirements of each measure. This guide examines the funding opportunities most relevant to companies operating in Italy and explains how different components of a DPP project may fit within them.

‍

Can a Digital Product Passport project receive public funding?

A Digital Product Passport project is unlikely to qualify simply because it supports regulatory compliance. Funding programmes usually assess the specific investment being made.

Depending on the call, potentially relevant activities may include:

  • implementing digital product and traceability systems;
  • integrating product, supplier, ERP, PLM, PIM or e-commerce data;
  • adopting cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity services;
  • introducing systems for collecting and exchanging supply-chain information;
  • training employees on digital and environmental processes;
  • engaging specialist consultants;
  • supporting circular business models and material traceability.

The same DPP project may therefore contain several workstreams that fall under different categories of eligible expenditure.

Italian incentives that may support DPP-related investments

MIMIT funding for fashion supply-chain SMEs

The PMI operanti nella filiera della moda measure, introduced by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), provides €100 million to support development programmes presented by SMEs operating in fashion, textiles and accessories.

Eligible programmes may include productive investments, innovation and complementary activities. Projects must, however, represent broader development programmes with eligible expenditure between €1 million and €20 million.

A Digital Product Passport could therefore form part of a larger programme involving supply-chain integration, digital transformation or production innovation. It would be unlikely to meet the scale and scope of the measure as a standalone implementation.

The opening date for applications has not yet been announced.

Piedmont SME Digitalisation Voucher 2026

The Voucher Digitalizzazione PMI 2026 supports digital transformation projects undertaken by micro, small and medium-sized companies in Piedmont.

The measure can cover the acquisition of digital goods and services, together with related consultancy and training. A DPP project may be relevant where it involves eligible technologies, data integration or the digitalisation of company processes.

Applications can be submitted from 22 October to 15 December 2026. The programme has a total budget of €19.2 million.

MIMIT Skills Development programme

The Sviluppo Competenze programme supports employee training related to the digital and green transitions.

It is open to eligible SMEs with a local unit in Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia or Sicily. Projects can range from €10,000 to €60,000, with an ordinary contribution covering 50% of eligible expenses.

This measure would not fund the technical implementation of a Digital Product Passport. It could, however, support the development of internal skills required to manage product data, traceability processes and new digital workflows.

Applications for the second window remain open until 21 December 2026.

SIMEST Digital or Ecological Transition financing

The Transizione digitale o ecologica instrument supports digital and environmental investments by eligible Italian companies operating internationally.

At least 50% of the approved financing must generally be allocated to digital or environmental investments. Depending on the company and applicable conditions, a non-repayable contribution may be available alongside the subsidised financing.

DPP-related systems could potentially be included within a broader investment plan covering digital infrastructure, process innovation or environmental transition. The company must still demonstrate that the proposed expenditure satisfies the programme’s internationalisation and eligibility requirements.

SIMEST Certifications and Consulting financing

The Certificazioni e consulenze instrument supports consultancy and certification activities connected with international growth.

It may be relevant where a DPP project includes specialist advisory work supporting product compliance, data governance or access to foreign markets. Eligibility depends on the purpose of the consultancy, the provider and its connection with the company’s internationalisation project.

The instrument provides subsidised financing from €10,000 to €500,000, subject to the applicable limits and conditions.

Dual Transition Vouchers

The Voucher Doppia Transizione 2026 programme supports the digital and environmental transition of Italian SMEs through the national network of Punti Impresa Digitale (PID), the Digital Enterprise Points operated by the Italian Chambers of Commerce.

The programme makes €150 million available between 2026 and 2029. Individual calls, deadlines, contribution amounts and eligible technologies are defined by the participating local Chambers of Commerce. Companies should therefore use the central programme page to identify and consult the call applicable to their territory.

DPP-related expenditure may be relevant where the local measure covers technologies or consultancy for traceability, data management, system integration or digital process innovation.

‍

Other incentives may apply to specific parts of the project

Additional programmes may be relevant in more limited circumstances.

The Sostegno alla domanda di servizi di cloud computing e cyber security, referred to as the MIMIT Cloud & Cybersecurity Voucher, may support eligible cloud and cybersecurity services.

However, it does not finance a generic DPP solution. The products and services must fall within the authorised categories and be purchased from providers included in the relevant MIMIT list.

Regional circular-economy programmes may also apply when a DPP supports a wider project involving waste prevention, recycling, material recovery or circular supply chains. Providing product information alone may not be sufficient unless it contributes directly to the outcomes required by the call.

‍

What companies should verify before applying

Before treating an incentive as suitable for a DPP project, companies should check:

  • the eligible company size, sector and ATECO codes;
  • geographical requirements;
  • minimum and maximum project value;
  • eligible technologies and services;
  • whether suppliers must hold specific qualifications;
  • whether expenditure incurred before the application is excluded;
  • the permitted balance between software, consultancy and training;
  • state-aid and de minimis limits;
  • required project outcomes and reporting evidence;
  • whether the measure provides a grant, subsidised financing or a combination of both.

Digital Product Passport support for small companies

Funding can help small companies invest in the product data, traceability systems and internal processes required for Digital Product Passport implementation. The project still needs a clear technical scope that identifies the activities, systems and costs involved before these can be compared with the eligibility rules of a specific measure.

Renoon offers a dedicated programme to help small companies prepare and implement Digital Product Passports, from defining the required data and processes to planning a scalable rollout.
