How Copenhagen Fashion Week Is Scaling the Implementation of Sustainability Requirements Through Renoon’s Digital Product Passport Infrastructure

Since 2023, brands applying to Copenhagen Fashion Week have been assessed against the Sustainability Requirements framework by demonstrating compliance through qualitative responses and supporting documentation. As the framework is adopted by additional fashion weeks and councils, ensuring that assessments remain consistent across different organisations becomes an increasingly important operational challenge.

To support this next phase, Copenhagen Fashion Week and Renoon have partnered on a three-year collaboration to develop an AI-assisted screening system built on Renoon’s Digital Product Passport platform. The collaboration builds on Renoon’s work developing the technology helping organisations prepare for DPP implementation, by structuring product information and documentation.

Rather than changing the framework itself, the project applies the same underlying technology to support its implementation through a more consistent, transparent and auditable assessment process.

Scaling the implementation of an established framework

As sustainability frameworks become more widely adopted, implementation extends beyond defining requirements. Organisations also need processes capable of reviewing applications consistently, even as the number of participating brands and supporting documents grows.

Within the Copenhagen Fashion Week application process, brands submit qualitative responses alongside supporting documentation demonstrating how they meet the framework’s requirements. The collaboration with Renoon applies digital technology to support this workflow while preserving the existing review methodology.

Supporting assessment through AI

The AI-assisted screening system supports the review of brand submissions by analysing qualitative responses and supporting documentation. According to Copenhagen Fashion Week, its objective is to improve the consistency, auditability and objectivity of the screening process while reducing the time and resources required as the framework expands.

Expert review remains central to the process. Rambøll continues as Copenhagen Fashion Week’s external screening partner, while AI is integrated as a supporting layer within the existing assessment workflow.

Built on Renoon’s Digital Product Passport platform

Digital Product Passports are becoming the most significant product data requirement introduced by the European Union. Their implementation requires companies to establish digital infrastructures capable of managing structured product information, documentation and governance across the value chain.

Renoon develops Digital Product Passport technology to help organisations build this infrastructure. The AI-assisted screening system developed with Copenhagen Fashion Week is a tailored application of the same platform, building on technology originally designed to structure sustainability and operational documentation.

While Digital Product Passport implementation remains the company’s primary purpose, this collaboration demonstrates how the same digital infrastructure can also support related implementation workflows where structured documentation, transparent assessment and consistent governance are equally important.

Looking ahead

Renoon and Copenhagen Fashion Week are now preparing for the first pilot of the AI-assisted screening system for the AW27 edition of Copenhagen Fashion Week. The collaboration also aims to support the future adoption of the framework by additional fashion weeks and councils internationally.

Digital Product Passports require organisations to establish digital infrastructures capable of managing product information, documentation and governance.

The collaboration between Copenhagen Fashion Week and Renoon illustrates how technology developed for Digital Product Passport implementation can also strengthen related operational workflows while supporting the adoption of an established assessment framework.
